BOTETOURT DEMOCRACTIC COMMITTEE SUBCOMMITTEES 2025
Below is a list and description of each of the subcommittees recently formed based on feedback from members. Please take some time to read through the groups and consider how you can help or if you’d like to get involved with your fellow Democrats.
These groups are just getting underway and they can be joined at any time. The more the merrier! If you find an area of interest, contact the group through the email provided and get connected.
Literature and Libraries – Supporting our librarians and teachers against book banning. Setting up a Book Club to learn from our history and fortify us with knowledge and joy for the times ahead. BoCoBooks@proton.me
RideShare – One of the main barriers for some of our members to attend meetings was driving at night – we get it! If you are interested in either helping out or if a ride to meetings would be helpful to you, please email BoCoRides@proton.me
Trades – We found out that we have so many wonderful members with fix-it skills and who are involved in various trades – construction, railroad, solar, mechanical, etc. We would love your input as we build things and get to know local businesses who share our values. BoCoTrades@proton.me
Social Events – this one is for all the party planners and fun instigators. Community and fun is resistance too, and one of the feedback points is that our group wants more opportunities to gather with like-minded support. Thank you for baking delicious treats or planning unique outings – BoCoSocial@proton.me
Communications – We heard that we have radio operators in the house – please teach us! From high to low-tech, communication is key. If you are passionate about keeping us connected, please email BoCoComms@proton.me
Agriculture & Food Security – We know that prices will continue to go up, but we are also lucky that we have multiple master gardeners in the group! If you have a spare patch of yard that could grow strawberries, maybe you can trade with another member whose chickens lay like crazy. Help us identify spots for potential community gardens and local farmers and legislation we can feel good about supporting. BoCoGrow@proton.me
Education – with the dismantling of The Department Of Education, kids, schools, and teachers are going to need our support more than ever. Please help us follow national legislation and local issues – BoCoEdu@proton.me
Volunteerism & Outreach – One of the other main survey points is that we need to get out into the community to show potential members and swing voters that we are here. We believe in a diverse membership across races, backgrounds, and ages. If you’ve got ideas on where we can be visible, which groups most need our help, and/or the gumption to get out there, please email – BoCoVoCo@proton.me
Regular Visibility at Community Meetings – Thank you to all those who volunteered to make the regular meetings of the school board, planning commission, board of supervisors, and others part of their regular week. This group will ensure that we have regular representation but reach out to the rest of the membership to fill any holes and to make sure we support each other. BoCoRegulars@proton.me
Protests & Activism – We know that the Botetourt Dems can show up with the best of them! This group is for anyone who wants our rights to peaceful assembly protected, has some great sign making skills, wants to show up to support our causes in person, or maybe owns a megaphone. BoCoLetsGo@proton.me
Medical Resources for Pets and People – we have several current and former doctors, nurses, and vets in the house! We would love for you to keep us in the loop on developing health issues and legislation as well as help us identify local avenues for all of us to stay healthy. BoCoMed@proton.me
Legal – As we all know, our rights are under siege. We would appreciate anyone with legal experience who can help us stay best informed and may know good representation in the area – just in case. BoCoEsq@proton.me
